The BlackBerry 8520 is a sleek and fun handset. All basics have been met and, even though some traditional BlackBerry features have been left off, there are enough extras to keep you enticed.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Design
With measurements of 109 mm (height) x 60 mm (width) x 13.9 mm (thickness), the Curve 8520 is the slimmest BlackBerry to date. Weighing only 106 grams, the handset fits comfortably into your pocket. The first thing that many may notice is the replacement of the traditional trackball with a sleek trackpad, making navigation so much easier. The full QWERTY keypad is housed in a solid plastic casing, and the corners are all rounded to add to the sleek appearance of the phone. There are also dedicated media keys, making navigation faster and easier. The screen measures 2.64 inches, and the 65 000 colour TFT screen delivers high quality imaging. Colour-wise, the BlackBerry 8520 is only available in black.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Music
The BlackBerry 8520 Curve comes with an integrated music player supporting MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA and ASF music formats. The dedicated music keys mean that you don’t have to sift through your menus to get to your tracks. By adding the BlackBerry Media Sync application to your computer, your playlists can be easily synchronised to your handset with everything, including album artwork, transferring quickly and easily. There is a convenient 3.5 mm headphone jack, meaning that you can attach your favourite headphones to improve your listening experience.
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 comes with 256MB of internal memory. This is enough to store a fair number of tracks, but the microSD card allows you to increase this capacity up to 32GB if desired.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Camera
The Curve 8520 BlackBerry has a built-in 2-megapixel camera. With 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution, picture quality is fairly good. There aren’t, however, too many added perks to the camera feature. The lack of a flash is particularly noticeable. The camera can, however, be used as a video recorder.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Applications and Internet
The BlackBerry 8520 comes with all standard phone applications, and is also very geared towards e-mail communication. The handset contains efficient compression techniques when it comes to e-mailing, making it fast and efficient. GPS and 3G features have unfortunately been left off the 8520, but the handset is much slimmer and easier to handle as a result.
Internet connectivity is made possible with GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, WLAN, Bluetooth and USB technologies.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Summary
The Curve 8520 is a sleek, youthful offering from BlackBerry. It’s compact and easy to carry around. And although some features have been sacrificed, it’s still functional and fun enough to use as both a business tool and an everyday communication tool.
