HTC Touch Viva Review

The HTC Touch Viva is an attractive, modern handset. It has features to meet most modern requirements. Although a few elements have been left off the phone compared to its predecessor, there is still enough to keep most people happy.
HTC Touch Viva Design
The HTC Touch Viva measures 104.5 mm (height) x 59 mm (width) x 15.8 mm (thickness) and weighs 110 grams. It is an attractive handset and fits quite nicely in your pocket. The 2.8-inch TFT resistive touchscreen supports 65 000 colours and displays at 240 x 320 pixels, meaning that image quality is pretty good. The screen is also concave as opposed to sitting flush with the casing. The only other features on the front of the HTC Touch Viva are the send and end keys and the 5-way navigation pad. On the left of the phone is a volume control key, the top features the power key, and the bottom houses miniUSB port. Colour-wise, the Viva is available in dark grey.
HTC Touch Viva Music
The HTC Touch Viva comes standard with an integrated music player. Sound quality is good, and the loudspeaker feature allows for an easy sharing experience. There are however no headphones and the 3.5mm headphone jack is unfortunately missing from this handset. If you want to listen to your tracks through earphones you need to get mini USB adaptor to fit the device. A number of tracks can be stored using internal memory (128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM), but a MicroSD card can increase this capacity if desired. There is unfortunately no FM radio.
HTC Touch Viva Camera
The HTC Touch Viva comes with a built-in 2-megapixel camera. This is a lot less than many HTC predecessor phones, but 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution means that image quality will be reasonable. There is 2 x digital zoom to capture images further away or to focus in on something specific, and the camera also doubles as a video recorder.
HTC Touch Viva Applications and Internet
There are a couple of additions to the standard phone applications on the HTC Touch Viva. The messaging application offers support for Email and Instant Messaging, and you SMSes can now be seen in threaded view. The ÒPocket OfficeÓ allows you to view Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and PDF documents.
The HTC Touch Viva runs off a Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system and Internet connectivity is made possible with GPRS, EDGE, WLAN, Bluetooth and USB technologies.
HTC Touch Viva Summary
The HTC Touch Viva is a sleek, attractive phone that has much to offer, but is unfortunately also lacking in a few areas. The lack of 3G, GPRS and 3.5 mm jack is viewed by many as unacceptable. There is still much going for it though and many will find it a very pleasing handset to own.
