Whenever a new phone comes out, the first thing we ask ourselves is ‘What is the purpose of this phone?’ That is, what sets it apart from all the other phones and what is it’s focus. Now with the Sony Ericsson C510 this is easy. The C510 Cyber Shot was designed to be a great camera phone. But we will get to that later in the review.

Sony Ericsson C510 Design

The Sony Ericsson C510 is a stylish phone that ways around 92g, with the dimensions 107mm x 47mm x 12.5mm. It is a fairly small and light phone.  There is a large, clear screen (2.2inch), and the Sony Ericsson c510 has the typical easy to use interface seen on most top-end ericsson phones nowadays.

Now, this is the reason to buy the Sony Ericsson c510. It has a 3.2 mega pixel camera, with 3.2x digital zoom. We agree this is not the highest MP avaliable at the moment, but it is the add-ons and extras which make the C510 Cyber Shot a great camera phone. It actively incorporated Face Detection, which means that the Sony Ericsson c510 will automatically focus on faces in photos. The camera also has Smile shutter, so it will automatically take a picture when someone smiles - that’s pretty clever.

Other aspects of the brilliant Sony Ericsson c510 camera include: Photo Light to brighten dark patches in pics; Photo Fix to adjust light and contrast post-pic; Auto-focus; Picture Blogging and Geo-targetting. Another cool feature, is if you want to view photo’s in landscape or portrait, then you just need to rotate the handset. This is a top-end camera phone.

A fairly standard offering here from Sony Ericsson c510. It supports MP3 formats, and FM Radio. There is 100 mb of built-in internal memory with a memory card support for a Memory Stick Micro M2.

Sony Ericsson C510 Internet and Applications

It uses built-in WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 XHTML, Web Feeds and Access NetFront web browsing technologies. This is quick and easy to use. Application-wise the Sony Ericsson C510 is a little below par, but does have Google Maps which is quite handy.

Overall the Sony Ericsson C510 is a great little phone. It is stylish and easy to use, as well as being quite compact. Throw in the great camera and picture applications and you have a real winner.
