The Nokia N97 mini is the baby brother of the well-respected Nokia N97. It comes jam-packed with features and functionality, but is conveniently compact and easy to carry around on a daily basis.

Nokia N97 mini Design

The Nokia N97 mini is the compact ‘little brother’ to the Nokia N97. The overall appearance is fairly similar to its larger predecessor, with its dimensions shaved down to 113 mm (height) x 52.5 mm (width) x 14.2 mm (thickness) and a weight of 138 grams. The front of the handset is dominated by the 3.2 inch TFT resistive touchscreen. The screen offers 16 million-colour support and displays at a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The phone includes accelerometer sensor as well as handwriting recognition. Sliding the phone to the side reveals the tactile, well-spaced full QWERTY keypad. Colour-wise, the Nokia N97 is available in cherry black and garnet.

Nokia N97 mini Music

The Nokia N97 mini features a built-in music player with support for MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC+ music files. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack that will allow you to use your favourite headphones when listening to your tracks. There is a generous 8 GB of internal memory – enough to store most of your music tracks. There is, however, the ability to increase this storage capacity up to 16 GB by means of a microSD card slot. The Nokia N97 mini also includes a visual radio and Stereo FM radio with RDS functionality – the ability of radio station information to be displayed across your screen while listening.

Nokia N97 mini Camera

The Nokia N97 mini includes a 5-megapixel camera that captures images at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Picture quality is great and there is the added backing of Carl Zeiss optics. The autofocus feature ensures that your images are always clear, and there is a dual LED flash to allow for picture taking even when lighting conditions aren’t ideal. The phone also includes video light and Geo-tagging applications. The camera feature on the Nokia N97 mini doubles as a video recorder, capturing videos at 30 frames per second. There is also a secondary videocalling camera.

Nokia N97 mini Internet and Applications

The Nokia N97 mini operates on the Symbian OS v9.4. There are great messaging features, including e-mail and push e-mail functionality. One of the biggest new features is Lifecasting with Ovi. This is a particularly exciting feature for Facebook users as your Facebook status can be automatically updated with your location using real places on a map. Pictures can even be added using the live, customised home screen. An additional Ovi application is the combination of Ovi Maps with A-GPS to provide voice navigation when on the move. It can even supply you with 155 000 different points of interest. The Nokia N97 mini also includes a video and photo editor, as well as Flash Lite 3. To aid with business dealings, the handset has a Document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF viewer). Internet connectivity is made possible with GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, WLAN Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB technologies.

The Nokia N97 mini is feature-rich and easy to use. It has all the draw cards of its slightly larger predecessor, but comes in an attractive, compact casing. A great all-rounder.
